HOW IT WORKS
STEP ONE. Payment: Your payment in full reserves your place on the artist’s commission list.
STEP TWO. Contact Us. After your payment, please contact us and provide your e-mail address via our Contact Form here. The artist will consult with you about your vision for the portrait and give you instructions for sending your photographs. See our Photography Recommendations, below.
STEP THREE. Starting the Portrait. We will review your photographs to make sure the quality is sufficient as a reference for your portrait art. You will be notified regarding the date your portrait will begin. Payment is refundable up to the date the portrait is begun, but once the portrait is underway, the payment is non-refundable. Estimated time frame once portrait will be provided, which is about 4 weeks. Matting and framing recommendations are included. This is pricing for the physical portrait art. As is customary, the artist owns the copyright for the work and the right to reproduce and show an image of the portrait on her website, social media, etc. Anonymity of the subject is maintained upon request.
STEP FOUR. Digital Mock-up. After the portrait process is begun, you will be sent a digital photographic image showing the proposed layout and description of your portrait for your approval.
STEP FIVE. Art Creation. During the portrait process, you will receive an image of the work in progress. Before your portrait is shipped, you will receive a digital image of the finished portrait. It may be possible to make minor tweaks before shipment. Your portrait will then be beautifully wrapped and mailed flat via USPS.
Photography Recommendations for Your Pet Portrait. Better quality photos help make better portraits. Virginia likes to have one main reference photo to work from as the basis for the portrait, with other photos to supplement information, such as exact color of fur, or details of the eyes and nose, position of the ears, etc. Best photos are taken of the pet’s face at their eye level, looking directly at the face, neck and shoulders. Photos should be as sharp as possible. Use the focus feature of your camera or smart phone. Even lighting is best. Outdoors in the shade is preferable. Avoid glaring lights or strong sunlight with harsh shadows. Digital photos are preferred, but printed photos can be used depending of quality. We can provide instructions for emailing or sending them.
Memorial Portraiture: Having a beautiful portrait of a beloved pet who has passed can be very meaningful. If this is a memorial portrait, we understand that available photographs are limited. In all cases, if you send us the photos that you have, we can let you know if the images are suitable for a portrait. We will refund your money and let you know if the photographs are not suitable for a portrait drawing.
A Description of Your Pet: It is helpful to know about the personality of your pet to assist in expressing their sense of character. Feel free to include a description when you contact us.
Larger Sizes. Multiple Pets. Pricing may be available for larger sizes, multiple pets on a single page, and in other media. Please contact Virginia via this website’s contact form at this link.
Gift Certificates are available upon request.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Please contact us if you wish to place an order from outside of the U.S. Any import tax or custom duties, where applicable, are payable by the buyer. We will calculate your shipping cost.
